Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of West Bend 41300 Hi-Rise Electronic Dual-Blade Breadmaker

Customer Review: Good bread maker
Summary: 4 Stars

This bread maker works very well. The first one I recieved worked well, but the metal on the inside started coming away from the bread machine wall. It was very easy to have Amazon send a new one and they paid to send the other one back. I have made 5 or 6 recipes and they have all turned out well. It's great for making rolls and have it mix and do the first raise. My only complaint is that sometimes the blades won't come out easy and I have to pull hard on the loaf to get them out of the pan. I would buy this bread maker again.

Customer Review: Good breadmaker, excellent shipment service
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this bread machine in very good condition....Amazon double packed it in addition to manufacturer's box. The machine is easy to use, even for beginners. Amazon's price is cheaper than Target.

Customer Review: Good machine, just having issues with the paddles
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had this bread machine for 10 months now and feel confident reviewing it.

I've made a lot of bread with it - about 2 loaves per week. I've also made quite a bit of pizza dough. I have found that almost all of my loaves turn out well mixed and I've only had 1 collapsed loaf and a few knarled tops - which I assume is me not getting a good liquid to flour ratio.

I have a complaint though...
1) The paddles slowly started to wear down - one will get off it's post just a little bit during the mixing and it seems to grind them down. I noticed one was more worn than another but it was not as though I would put them in the pan any particular way. After about 2-3 months it actually left metal residue on the bread! I called and was sent, free of charge, replacement paddles. Now another 4 months or so later it is doing it again. I'm not sure if I'm not adding enough liquid, though the dough and bread turned out fine. I will call again and get some new paddles. I'm not sure if this is a common thing with bread machines or not.

So, I have mixed feelings about my beloved bread machine. I love it as long as the paddles don't wear down...

Customer Review: Good price, but I didn't pay for a brick machine
Summary: 1 Stars

While this is a decent price for a bread machine, I didn't have good luck AT ALL with this machine. My old Breadman TR200 machine died on me recently, after 10 years of faithful service and awesome bread making. It has been my experience that not all bread machines are made equally, not even if the same brand and model. Even with my old one, I finally settled on my 4th replacement of the same brand and model. Some work, some don't. Some don't heat up enough, some don't mix well, some don't make the dough rise and some just break. This time around, I'm not willing to try others of the same West Bend brand or model, because not only did the bread not turn out OK, but the machine itself is so very flimsy and poorly put together. The lid of the machine doesn't make a good seal, thus leaking steam out of the machine while baking. The door is also plastic, flimsy and wiggles around. A big problem was also the difficulty of the bread pan latching into the machine itself. I wanted to throw both the pan and machine in the garbage, that's how poorly the latch system was. The two kneading blades didn't add any features / benefits to the machine, to the contrary, one didn't work all the time which resulted in the ingredients not being mixed well and chunks of flour not blended in with the rest.

This bread machine was returned to Amazon (who BTW should make the return policy for these products longer, because it takes longer to figure out if it's the machine that's the problem, or the user / recipe!!) within the return period, and got a full refund. That's why I keep using Amazon; great customer service and prices (most of the time anyway).

I have not purchased a new machine yet, but I've narrowed down my choices to either the Panasonic SD-YD250 (currently at $135) or the Zojirushi BB-CEC20 (currently at $216 - high!). Will review the one I will purchase then.

Customer Review: Good so far
Summary: 4 Stars

Have used the unit three tims so far. As always there is a learning curve. However, we feel with a little more practice we will be getting good results every time.
