I cannot tell you how many electric con openers I have purchased over the years. The last straw was a couple months ago while attempting to open large cans of tomato sauce to make a large batch of homemade sauce. The opener I had never worked unless I got it lined up "just right", which for me was frustrating. Needless to say, I ended up using a hand held opener which really hurt my hand. I threw it away after that, and went on a search for a good electric can opener. To be honest, I read a lot of reviews and thought I would buy the West Bend. I am totally happy with my opener and would recommend this to anyone. Thanks to Amazon I finally have an opener that works like magic!Customer Review: Finally, a can opener we really like!

I bought this can opener as a Valentine's gift for my wife. I know, it doesn't sound very romantic. But actually she was quite touched, because she was frustrated to the point of yelling at our old openers. (Don't worry, I gave her flowers and other stuff as well...)
The new can opener is very easy to use. We no longer struggle to align a can just right, which was a real nuisance on several of our previous can openers. It doesn't splash at the end of a cut, which would really frustrate us when we wanted to cook quickly and didn't want to have to clean up yet another mess. The machine is actually attractive, which is something I never thought I would say about a can opener. It is very easy to clean; you can push a button at the top and the entire chrome-plated cutting mechanism pops out for easy thorough cleaning in the sink, so that you don't have to worry about getting water into the motor. The cord is easily shoved into the unit so you only have to expose as much cord as it takes to reach the outlet. It also operates quietly, which we appreciate in our already noisy home (two young boys.)
As others have mentioned, the magnet folds down when not in use, making the unit more attractive. But I really like this feature because it also covers up the sharp cutting blade, making it safer to leave out on the counter where curious hands might investigate.
I haven't tried the bottle opener or knife sharpener on the back of the unit, and I doubt I will. I have other tools for these purposes, which I imagine would do a better job. However, in terms of its main purpose (opening cans), it is excellent. Highly recommended!

All other electric can openers either broke or just didn't work well. They were hard to get the can under the blade, and sometimes didn't cut all the way around. This one is so much different! First, it operates very quietly. Cans of any size are position easily under the blade....the first time I try! Once I position the can and press the lever, I can continue cooking while the opener does the work. It opens the can and stops when it is fully opened. Normally, with other openers, when the can is opened it splashes out, making a mess, as the opener jerks to a stop. Not with this one. It operates very smoothly. So glad I purchased the West Bend 77203 Can opener. Although I have it for a brief time, I must say it is a very easy can opener to use. I have opened a variety of sizes of cans (and some oval shapes) with ease- I do like that the edges of the removed lid are crimped a bit so that there is less chance of cutting oneself.
I have gone through a variety of openers over the years and this one is the best I've encountered thus far. I can't speak to the longevity of this product yet, but will wait and see.

I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I OPENED THE PACKAGE ... IT LOOKS SO EXPENSIVE AND FANCY, "CELEBRITY STYLE CANOPENER" $100+ THE EASIEST CAN OPENER I'VE EVER USED, CAN SNAPS RIGHT ON THERE AND OPENS QUICK AND SIMPLE.
