Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of West Bend 78224 Quik-Serve Toaster, Black

Customer Review: Love this toaster
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased this toaster and it is great. My 7 year old grandson loves it because he can make his own toaster waffles himself without getting burned. They come out the bottom and are cool enough for him to handle. The browning is even. It toasts bagels, too.

Customer Review: Narrow toaster.
Summary: 3 Stars

When I first got this toaster, I was enamored. Two months later...the honeymoon is over. It does toast. It very simple to use.
It does get brown --but you have to test out the settings until you figure the appropriate setting for you. I have a couple
of hang-ups with this toaster.
PROS:

1. Small foot print (great for small kitchens)

2. It can toast unusually long slices of bread or huge bagels.

3. It does toast.

CONS:

1. When you close the bread tray, crumbs fall on to the counter under the toaster. ( I wipe up under it each time)
But if you have kids, chances are likely they won't.

2. Sometimes the toast actually doesn't fall out. ( We have a wooden chopstick) on standby for these times... but
why? This I can see as potentially dangerous... as kids (boys) in my case... will stick anything that is close into
the toaster to get their grub. That is why the wooden chopstick is always nearby.

So--yes it does toast, simple to use, great for small spaces and it's inexpensive --but be prepared to clean up every time you close the door,
and you may have your toast stuck in the toaster...at least I did.

Customer Review: New Toaster
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best toasters we have ever used. It is worth the extra money as it really does
a good job on toast and bagels. I really like the fact that whatever you put in the toaster comes out
the bottom so there is no more picking out items out of the top that didn't pop back up like they are
supposed to.

Customer Review: Nice concept but
Summary: 1 Stars

First of all I paid a [...] premium on the product by buying it at Amazon.com instead of [...] as I refuse to buy at Walmart because I just think that supporting a store like Walmart encourages them to build more new stores. While I like to save money just like the next person I am also willing to pay more to support the stores that I like and buy goods from American companies.

While the pictures that accompany the product show perfectly toasted bread and the concept for the toaster, especially the one side or dual side toasting, is just what I was seeking, the execution and day to day performance were not anywhere near what I expected. Through trial and error, to find the proper toasting setting, I discovered that I had to turn the setting dial to its maximum to even begin to toast my homemade bread and store bought bagels. And to get anywhere near a "picture perfect" slice of toast required putting the bread or bagels through the toaster a second time at half the setting of the first.

For the price commanded by the toaster, instead of a cheap Walmart [...]toaster, I expected much, much better performance but alas I was greatly disappointed. Then to top it all off, there was the ubiquitous "Made in China" stamped on the bottom of the product. Don't US companies make anything at home anymore.

I have had this toaster for less than a year and one element has already burned out. It does not toast evenly.. Am very disappointed.. West Bend used to be a very good brand but I guess it has gone by the wayside with alot of others. Would not advise anyone to buy it
