This is a great slow cooker. Does an excellent job, is light weight, and very easy to clean. Remember to use plastic utensils in it so you don't scratch the non-stick coating! This is nothing like the old heavy ceramic crock pots of 20 years ago. It got me back to using a slow cooker again. I use it several times a week and it looks attractive enough to leave in the corner of my kitchen counter so I don't have to dig it out every time.Customer Review: Fantastic!!

I bought this product based on the reviews I read on www.Amazon.com, and I was not disappointed. I have never written a review before, but felt that this product warranted my two cents.Being a non-cook I was looking for a product that would help me give my family better meals (actually an 'edible' meal was my initial goal, but have since created some pretty good dishes!)while helping me to better manage my time. Meals used to be a last minute thought, a rushed affair at the end of the day. Now I prepare meals in the morning, and dish it up in the evening. Even the times I thought that I had completely massacred the recipe, and got it all completely wrong, it turned out great. It is so forgiving to us culinary challenged individuals!
The best feature of this product is truly its versatility. Browning meat on the stovetop; adding ingredients for slow cooking; keeping warm until you're ready to serve; putting it in the fridge with the leftovers; re-heating; putting it in the dishwasher; to name but a few. Being able to see the food cooking through the glass top is also nice, and although they say not to take the lid off except to add ingredients I do take it off a few times just to stir it around, and it hasn't made any difference whatsoever to the final product. I still get fantastic meals.
It is very well made, and is a best seller for a reason. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you West Bend, www.Amazon.com, and all the other reviewers!
Customer Review: Fear the METAL RACK against the NON-STICK INTERIOR "

Yes to everything good reviewers have written on the Versatility. But please will someone tell me why they include a metal rack to go inside the non-stick interior of the vessel? The first meal I prepared was a whole roasted chicken. According to direction I used the rack. Upon washing the pot in warm soapy dish water (with soft sponge) I noticed two small places on the botton of the pot where the metal rubbed into the non-stick surface. I had never seen this item in real life but sine it looked good with many good reviews I ordered it. I was first very surprized how light the overall shipment is. When I opened the box, I realized that the unit is very thin, even at the bottom. The lid did not have a good fit, I would have to bend the unit back in the chape of the lid (probably something that could be done easily) for the glass lid to fit right. I did not try it out and decided to return it to Amazon. This is the first time that I will return something to Amazon and I just found out that the free shipping that I got from Amazon (you know the plus $xx minus $xx) is not refundable. Makes sense when you think about it. But considering that it will probably cost me over $25, I wish someone had told me how cheap the unit feels. I cannot speak about its performance since I did not even plug it in.
P.S.: For those of you who might be concerned about the switch from other reviews... it looks fine but the surprizing thing is that its not a switch but a dimmer!

This was a wonderful gift received thanks to Amazon.com's Wedding Registry.
After many happy years of using a conventional Rival crock-pot, I've switched to the West Bend Versatility Slo-Cooker.
It's great to be able to brown meat on the stovetop and then slow cook it, all in the same pot. That means one less pan to scrub. Previously, I just skipped the browning step, and as a result, lost that extra layer of flavor.
Another benefit is being able to refrigerate and later reheat leftovers in the very same pot. (This is huge for a good friend of mine, whose husband decided to reheat leftovers on the stove in a ceramic crock-pot -- the bottom cracked. Big, big mess!)
I like the oval shape, which accommodates ribs much better than my old round crock-pot. Additionally, the metal pot is lightweight and has a non-stick interior, which is SO much easier to wash than a heavy ceramic pot.
This slow cooker has a non-stick heating base that doubles as a griddle, and the pot is oven-proof. Though I may not use those features, it's nice to have the option.
I kept my big old heavy Rival crock-pot in a cabinet for about half a year, while I tried out my new slow cooker. But, my beloved crock-pot eventually ended up going to a thrift shop.
Highly recommended!
