Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of West Bend Digital Timer, WhiteCustomer Review: Simple Instrument Summary: 4 Stars
It's a simple worthy timer. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a clock on it. But as for a timer...it does the job and the counting backwards is awesome too.
Customer Review: Simple and practical Summary: 5 Stars
The display is easy to read, and the beeper is nice and loud so that I can hear it from another room. It seems many reviewers are unhappy with the magnet feature, but as I don't use that, it's not a negative for me. I like that you can type in a specific time without waiting for the numbers to scroll all the way up - particularly helpful if you are aiming for a high time.
Customer Review: Surprisingly well made! Summary: 5 Stars
With the quality of most gadgets like this declining, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this is one of the better-made timers. It does everything I need, and I like the rubberized coating on the buttons. The "buzzer" is loud, without being overly annoying, and it works like a charm. I wish it came in other colors, but that's a small concession for something that works so well.
Customer Review: Terrible design, but works well Summary: 3 Stars
I can't remember when I've bought ANYthing that seemed so poorly designed. Yet despite that, it still works, at least so far, without a hitch.
What are the complaints? First, they combined the start and stop/reset switches as a tiny rocker switch. First couple times I used this, I hit the whole thing and all it did was erase my setting so I had to start over (it reset to zero). Some of us have big and yes, clumsy fingers, designers. Too cheap for separate, separated, on and off switches? - Second, even when I carefully press the start switch properly, I have to hold the timer with my other hand as the unit doesn't lie flat and stable - there's a magnetic clip in the middle of the back that sticks out and makes this flop around. A two-handed mini-timer? (In fairness, the unit does stand upright on its somewhat narrow bottom surface, and then the start and stop switches can be managed with one hand. But this isn't very stable and gets knocked over easily, and depending on the light it's hard to read the display as it's counting.) - Third, the alarm can hardly be heard if there's appreciable background noise. I can hear it, but my wife who has admittedly lost some of her hearing but is far from deaf, can only hear it in a totally quiet setting. - West Bend made a totally different, very reasonably designed unit years back; it was far better than this (and louder too).
Yet, if one is patient (meaning careful) while setting and stopping the timer, it works without a hitch. And at least it uses the number-entry approach, rather than the detestable hold-down-and-count-up mode. So, basically acceptable if far from ideal.
Customer Review: Terrible kitchen timer purchase Summary: 1 Stars
The unit failed after the second day of use. I would stronly recommend that you remove this item from your catalog so that others dont have to share in my experience.
